1. Application

The FTIR-20M High-voltage insulation resistance tester, with 7 range: 500V, 1000V, 2500V, 5000V, 10000V, 15000V, 20000V,test up to 20TΩ, manual voltage regulation function. This insulation resistance tester is designed based on the basic requirements of insulation resistance measurement, using electronic circuits. Its basic principle is to use the voltage and current methods to measure the resistance value of the measured object: R=V/I. The storage and operation circuit make this machine automatically measure the absorption ratio (R1min/R15s) and polarization index (R10min/R1min).

By testing the insulation resistance of different components in the system (transformer, switchgear, wire, motor), the faulty component can be isolated and repaired. Insulation test is used to check the insulation of the test product to ground or between adjacent conductors, which is of great significance to ensure product quality and safety of personnel and equipment in operation. Before powering on the system, use insulation tests to verify that it is sound and can improve the performance of the system; insulation tests can find manufacturing process problems and equipment defects, which are generally not found before the equipment fails. In the European Union, this test is mandatory, even for civil systems.

2. How Insulation Resistance is Measured?

It's well known that good insulation has high resistance; poor insulation, relatively low resistance. The actual resistance values can be higher or lower, depending upon such factors as the temperature or moisture content of the insulation (resistance decreases in temperature or moisture). With a little record-keeping and common sense, however, you can get a good picture of the insulation condition from values that are only relative.

The FTIR-20M insulation tester is a small, portable instrument that gives you a direct reading of insulation resistance in ohms or megohms. For good insulation, the resistance usually reads in the megohm range.

The FTIR-20M electrical insulation resistance tester is essentially a high-range resistance meter (ohmmeter) with a built-in direct-current generator. This meter is of special construction with both current and voltage coils, enabling true ohms to be read directly, independent of the actual voltage applied. This method is nondestructive; that is, it does not cause deterioration of the insulation.
