Some lubricants are used in sealed containers. During use, they often generate high temperatures due to various reasons (such as high speed or other factors, overheating of equipment, current interruption, arcing, etc.). This can cause the lubricant to decompose or leach light components from other components. These components evaporate in the sealed container and mix with air, posing a fire and explosion hazard. However, the open cup method may not detect the presence of these easily evaporating light components, so closed cup method is required for measurement, such as for solvent kerosene. This is entirely to adapt to the operating conditions and ensure that the measured flash point is similar to the actual situation during use.
