Is Silicone oil a hydraulic oil or transformer oil?
Silicone oil is composed of Si-O chain and organic matter. It is an odorless and tasteless organic liquid with the advantages of high chemical stability, low freezing point, low volatility, good oxidation resistance and high temperature resistance.
Dimethicone (silicon oil) has been used as an antifoaming agent for more than 50 years. Silicone oil has main features of heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertness and small surface tension. In addition, it also has low viscosity-temperature coefficient, high compression resistance, and some varieties also have radiation resistance.
Silicone oil and transformer oil have the same effect. But silicone oil is synthetic oil, transformer oil is generally natural petroleum, silicone oil is much more expensive than transformer oil.
Silicone is a K class transformer fluid, meaning it has a fire point above 300C. This means, in the event of a transformer failure due to an arc or lightning strike, there would be no pool fire (as would be the case with mineral oil).
Silicone was used for applications where fire safety is of paramount importance. Distribution transformers in built-up areas, oil and gas operations, manufacturing facilities handling flammable substances, trains, and wind turbines – these are the type of places where fire safety is a crucial factor. In countries with higher ambient temperatures, such as in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, this is especially important.
How to filter silicone oil?
Silicone oils share some of the same characteristics as transformer oils, with the advantages of thermal, oxidative and chemical stability. Its low pour point helps operate reliably in severe cold regions. High flash point and high ignition point own self-extinguishing characteristics.
