Insulating oil is widely used in high-voltage electrical equipment such as transformers, oil circuit breakers, oil-filled cables, power capacitors and bushings. Its functions are as follows:
1. Insulation effect. It impregnates and protects solid insulation such as transformers, cables, capacitors, etc., fills bubbles in the insulation, prevents air or moisture from invading, and ensures reliable insulation.
2. Cooling effect. It can play a good cooling role on electrical equipment such as transformers.
3. Arc extinguishing effect. In addition to its insulating function, the insulating oil in the oil circuit breaker also has an arc extinguishing function, which enables the circuit breaker to quickly and reliably cut off the arc.
During operation, whether it is SF6 gas or insulating oil and other insulating materials, the performance will gradually change due to the effects of high humidity, high temperature, sunlight, strong electric field and impurities of oxygen, so that it cannot fully play its insulating role. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct relevant tests on insulating materials regularly to identify whether their performance has deteriorated.
