Von der Leyen: EU will set up a working group to deal with US tariff policy
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on April 7 local time that the EU will set up an import monitoring task force and will strengthen the single market to deal with US tariffs. Von der Leyen also said that the EU has proposed to the United States to implement zero tariffs on industrial products.

On the 7th local time, EU trade ministers held a meeting in Luxembourg to discuss the impact of the US tariff increase and exchange views on countermeasures. According to EU officials, the meeting was intended to send a mes
sage to the outside world that the EU hopes to negotiate with the US on the tariff increase policy, and if the negotiations fail, the EU will take countermeasures.
The trade negotiations between the EU and the United States have not yet produced results. The European Commission may announce a preliminary list of countermeasures later on the 7th, intending to impose tariffs on meat, grain, timber and other goods from the United States. The EU may vote on this list this week.
