On June 29, the first generating unit of the Shangyi Pumped-Storage Power Station in Hebei-developed by Harbin Electric Machinery Company Limited (HEC)-successfully completed its 15-day trial operation assessment. With all operational indicators performing excellently, the unit has officially entered commercial operation. This milestone marks the commencement of green power transmission from Zhangjiakou's first pumped-storage power station to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, injecting new momentum into regional power security and the transformation of the energy structure.
A ceremony marking the commissioning of the first unit was held at the power station site that day. Representatives from Huayuan Electric Power Co., Ltd., Shangyi Huahao Pumped-Storage Power Generation Co., Ltd., and various participating construction units gathered to witness this historic moment. Liu Dengfeng, Deputy General Manager of HEC, attended the ceremony.
Located in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, the Shangyi Pumped-Storage Power Station is a key project under the national "13th Five-Year Plan." It serves as a vital component of the gigawatt-scale "battery" system for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and is a crucial project for Zhangjiakou's efforts to transform its energy structure and enhance its capacity to integrate new energy sources. The station is equipped with four pumped-storage units, each with a capacity of 350,000 kilowatts, all developed by HEC. Upon completion, the station will play a significant role in ensuring power supply security for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, improving the safety, reliability, and economic efficiency of the power grid, facilitating the integration of new energy, and supporting the achievement of "dual carbon" goals.
The vertical distance (head) between the upper and lower reservoirs of the Shangyi Pumped-Storage Power Station reaches 449 meters, placing extremely high demands on the reliability and stability of the generating units. During the project's execution, HEC assembled a team of technical experts to tackle key challenges. For Unit 1, the company innovatively adopted a runner design featuring alternating long and short blades and a yoke design utilizing a single-piece forged ring. Additionally, the application of multiple high-precision manufacturing processes fundamentally ensured that the unit could respond rapidly and operate stably under both pumping and power generation modes.
