The significance of the test on the determination of the acid value of petroleum products:
① The content of acidic substances in petroleum products can be determined based on the acid value. Generally speaking, the higher the acid value of a petroleum product, the more acidic substances it contains. Conversely, the lower the acid value, the less acidic substances it contains.
② The acid value can roughly judge the corrosive properties of petroleum products to metals. The organic acid content in petroleum products is small, and when there is no water and the temperature is low, it will not corrode metals. However, when the content is high and water is present, it can corrode metals. The smaller the organic acid molecule, the stronger the corrosiveness.
③ Determine the performance of petroleum products. The acid value of diesel has a great influence on the working condition of diesel engines. Diesel with a high acid value will increase carbon deposits in the engine, causing piston wear and nozzle coking. If the acidity is too high, it may be that the phenol or mercaptan content is too high, which will not only affect the color stability of petroleum products, but also the harmful gases generated after combustion will corrode the machine parts and pollute the environment.
④ The degree of deterioration of the lubricant in use can be judged according to the acid value. After a period of use, the lubricant gradually deteriorates due to oxidation, which is manifested as an increase in the acid value. When the acid value exceeds a certain limit, the oil should be replaced.
