Recently, the completion ceremony for the first section of the ±500kV DC submarine cable of the Yangjiang Sanshan Island Offshore Wind Power Flexible DC Transmission Project, the world's first ultra-large-scale integrated offshore and onshore ultra-high-voltage flexible DC transmission project, was held at Zhongtian Technology Submarine Cable Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Zhongtian Submarine Cable"). This marks a crucial step forward for my country in large-capacity flexible DC transmission in deep and distant seas.
The Yangjiang Sanshan Island Offshore Wind Power Project is the world's first ultra-large-scale integrated offshore and onshore ultra-high-voltage flexible DC transmission project. It has a planned total installed capacity of 2GW, with a total submarine cable length of 116.5 kilometers. Located in the South China Sea, an area prone to typhoons and complex sea conditions, the project presents extreme challenges to the electrical performance, mechanical strength, and environmental resistance of the submarine cables. Zhongtian Submarine Cable tackled core technologies such as large-cross-section water-blocking conductors, insulation design, and deep-sea laying protection for the ±500kV DC submarine cable, overcoming the worldwide challenge of space charge accumulation and electric field distribution control under high DC voltage, thus ensuring the safe and stable operation of the submarine cable in a long-term high-electric field environment.
